Support Group for families who have a child with a disability / additional need and living in the York area

Group introduction

We are a community interest company run entirely by volunteers. The group is run by Ruth Thompson and Cheryl Collins and is totally reliant on donations / fundraising. We provide activities, outings, day trips, cinema / theatre trips, dance classes, yoga classes etc for disabled children and their siblings. Plus we provide training courses and befriending services for parents

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

As parents of disabled children many of our parents are unable to work due to their caring commitments / hospital appointments etc. This often leaves families in financial hardship. We subsidise all our activities to make them affordable and accessible to families. Many families have more than one disabled child so providing affordable activities for their children is paramount. It is important that the families can enjoy activities that others take for granted, that they are accessible and enjoyable. The money we would receive would cover the costs of room hire, materials and subsidising tickets

"Financial donations through schemes such as the Skipton Building Society's Grassroots programmes provides essential funds to help us carry out our work with our local community and provide much needed activities and support for local disabled children and their families - Ruth Thompson (Director)"
