Otley Carnival Committee
Otley Carnival aims to give the community a "Fun Filled and Free Family Day Out" whilst raising funds for local Charities and Organisations.
Otley Carnival Committee is made up of a group of enthusiastic local people, whose aim for the past 35 years has been to give the townspeople of Otley and the visitors to the town, a day to remember full of colour, fun and laughter, and we hope to carry on doing so for many years to come. There is a parade through the town, made up of local schools, junior and adult groups, bands, cheerleaders, colourful floats and walking groups taking part. The parade finishes at the carnival field, where there are stalls, children's rides and entertainment, food outlets and much more, along with arena displays too. Our first carnival was held in 1983 and is now well established in Otley's event calendar. Every year we choose beneficiaries of the carnival from local charities and groups who have submitted application forms and wish to be considered. Local charities and organisations also have stalls on the carnival field where they raise funds for themselves.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
The cost of putting on Displays in the Carnival Arena has greatly increased over the years, and it can now cost between £500 to £1,000 for displays that will attract people to the field. Drawing in large crowds to the field is so important for, by doing so, it will be of benefit to the many local Charity and Organisations who run their own stalls on the field, enabling them to continue to raise funds for themselves and to raise their profile too. This in turn, will help ensure that the Carnival will continue to be held for many more years to come.
