Menston Cricket Club

Your story

Making cricket fun!

Group introduction

Menston Cricket Club is a community cricket club with 3 senior teams and junior girls and boys teams from under 9s upwards. The club provides opportunities for local people to take part in a popular summer sport, via training sessions and matches throughout the week from April to September.

The club is run by an Executive Committee and there are a number of volunteering opportunities
at the club, from coaching junior teams, providing refreshments and general upkeep work on the
ground and pavilion. The club has been in existence for over 130 years and actively promotes a positive and welcoming environment for participation in sport from people within the local
community. The club also provides a venue and ground for hire by local people and businesses.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

Menston Cricket Club is keen to improve its ground and facilities in order to attract and retain members and make the cricket club a welcoming environment for its community volunteers and visitors.

One projects that the cricket club has identified is the rebuilding of a dry stone wall at the far end of the ground, which has fallen down in places – this need repairing as
a matter of priority to ensure that the boundaries of the ground are made safe. This would also help to prevent casual and unauthorised access to the cricket ground and the adjacent scorebox (which is situated next to the dry stone wall).

"Menston Cricket Club is passionate about making the game of cricket fun for everyone and encourages people from all walks of life to 'give cricket a go'. It is a fantastic community club run by willing volunteers.

Paul Smith, Club Secretary"
