Bingley Medical Practice Patients
promote Self-Care and encourage patients to take responsibility for their own healthcare.

Group introduction

The PPG is now a well-established group of 23 voluntary patients that represent the views of patients to the management and clinical staff of Bingley Medical Practice.
I took over as Chair last May 2017 and since then, the primary task of the patient group has been to put forward the patients views and to improve and maintain the high standard patient relationship with the practice. We encourage, by having a facebook page, younger patients to join and have an influence in meeting the needs of the younger patient and to establish more communication between the practice and their patients.
Since May 2017 we have raised money towards the PAD (Public Access Defibrillator), which is now on the wall outside the practice. And I have run free CPR training, with equipment supplied by The British Heart Foundation, for 64 members of the public. There are more dates arranged between now and the end of the year. Regrettably, information about our group does not reach all patients. Therefore, the group has been trying to change this situation by printing a newsletter in order to spread word of our activities and raising awareness of the group.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

Our next major project is to respond to the patient’s request that the waiting area could be more interesting and stimulating. We are raising monies to put an electronic information screen that will show NHS guidance on Self-Care and encourage patients to take responsibility for their own health. We want to reach all age groups from the very young to the old alike. using the media of information screen.

"The PPG and young people by Ian Hodgeson. The PPG young people's group continues to grow, and our initiative has been mentioned in a recent (October 2017) Bradford CCG report, 'Improving Access and Managing Demand: engaging with Young People'."
