Your story

We are a community club with a focus on development of our young girls. We offer footballing opportunities to girls in the local community and also the wider community. The junior section has grown in the past 6 years and are working their way to receiving a Belfast City Council Clubmark Award. Our intention is to be able to provide coaching to all age groups.

Group introduction

Cliftonville Ladies FC was founded in 2001 by Marissa Callaghan & Louise Lewsley who wanted to give young females opportunities that had not been available to them whilst growing up. They started off with a small group of girls training once a week and have now progressed to having over 100 members. The club are run by a committee of volunteers consisting of a chairman, vice chairman, secretary, treasurer and a child welfare officer and a fundraising officer We have 5 junior age groups, U9's, U11's, U13's U15's & U17's and we also have 2 senior teams U19's and Senior Ladies.

All our coaches are Access NI checked and range in coaching qualifications from IFA level 1 coaching badges to
UEFA B licences. The Club is in the heart of the community area and is the focal point for young girls in the area. We offer football coaching to girls regardless of ability and religion hopefully improving both their physical & mental well being.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

Receiving this funding would enable us to purchase some much needed equipment like footballs, training bibs, cones and markers as we have not enough equipment for each team and some of the teams have to share at the club. It would also be used to enable us to put a coach through his/her Level 1 coaching badge which in turn may enable us to cater for an additional age group at the club.

""To provide opportunities for Girls & Women to train, compete & enjoy football, developing players and creating a pathway to enhance lifelong participation in football for females."

Marissa Callaghan - Academy Director"
