Wardle Football Club

Your story

Wardle Football Club has been established for over 100 years and is at the heart of the village of Wardle. We run grassroots football from 4 years right through to open age. We aim to provide football in the community for the next 100 years, creating and leaving a lasting football legacy for our village.

Group introduction

Rik Fielding is the Chairman of the Club, having played for them for many years and who's son now plays for the club. Rik plays a big role in the running and upkeep of the club but there are a number of other volunteers who also help out, taking kids to and from games, setting up and marking out pitches for match days, maintaining the pitches and facilities to ensure a safe environment, coaching, chasing payment for fees, doing accounts and fundraising activities.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

The funding would be used to improve and update the equipment at the club, giving children and adults alike a better grassroots football experience. Equipment such as goalposts for the U18 age groups have not been replaced or upgraded for many years and are looking a bit "worse for wear". These can be an expensive piece of kit to replace especially for good quality ones which would last longer and wear better. Next season this would benefit 4 of our own teams (U11-U13 - approx 50 kids) and any opposition teams they play as well as our younger age groups in years to come as they progress onto these age groups.

""I've seen so many people from Wardle village come into my prison. If I can stop one of these children from going to prison then I think we've achieved a really good thing. Grassroots football is massive - it teaches teamwork, respect and discipline"

Rik Fielding
