Trades Hall Bowling Club

New Mills

Your story

The club has a senior members team and currently competes in the Derbyshire/Cheshire league. The club is run by volunteers and all club development is through fundraising by the club

Group introduction

We are non profit making bowls club which has been running for over 70yrs. It is run by volunteers and mostly caters for retired people. It is a sport that is played individually or in pairs or in a team. It helps people socialize especially ones who have lost a wife, husband or partner. Even if they don't play they can come and help to mark cards and make drinks and have a good natter making them feel less isolated. It also gives them gentle exercise and fresh air.
We are trying to introduce some youngsters to join us and have recently signed up a 12yr old girl and a 16yr old girl. We also have a 17yr old boy who brings his brother who has learning difficulties and he enjoys a social game

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

The funding would help us to buy some smaller crown green bowls as currently the ones we have are too big for them. We also allow the U3A to use our green on a Sunday afternoon so we need smaller bowls for the ladies

"A pleasurable pastime with plenty of company.
