Prestwich Heys AFC

Your story

Prestwich Heys AFC is a local football club at the heart of the communty in Prestwich.

Group introduction

Prestwich Heys AFC is a successful non-league club in the North West. Last season we won the league cup and finished third in our league but our club is much more than just a football team.
We are an integral part of the community, giving a place for people to meet and enjoy football. Established in 1938 the club has always been run by local people for local people and have a strong committee of volunteers who run the club. We have really strong ties with residents and local businesses.
In the next 12 months, we have plans to setup a community programme to further develop our work in the local community using sport as a tool for social change.
With recent additions to the committee, the club is moving in a clear direction. Having secured a place in the FA Cup for the first time in 35 years, we have an exciting season ahead.
We are a focal point of our local community and we currently organise Fireworks displays, have a Community open day and give opportunities to local people to play football. We also allow our facilities to be used by the local community and schools.
We have recently recruited some new volunteers, who we are working on mentoring and giving an opportunity to develop their skills to help them get back into full time employment in football.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

The £500 would help us setup the community programme. The funding would be used as seed funding to allow us to access more funding and create an exciting community programme that uses football and sport to create social change. We have plans for a disability sports programme, volunteer mentoring and creating opportunities for people not in education, employment or training to gain sports qualifications.

""Football has the power to impact in a positive way in the local community. We are a fully inclusive club and look forward to providing further opportunities to the local community." Roger Goodwin, Volunteer, Prestwich Heys AFC"
