Derby Braves Women American Football

Your story

A developing American Football team for the women of Derby and the East Midlands

Group introduction

We are a community American Football club offering sporting opportunities to Women 17+. The women's team was founded in 2013 and has been competing nationally in the highest league ever since, despite having fewer club members and volunteers than our competitors.
Despite our small size, the coaches have developed a number of athletes who have gone on to represent Great Britain in European and World Championships. The club is run voluntarily by current and former players.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

American football uses a lot of equipment that suffers wear and tear over time. This equipment needs to be replenished in order to provide a safe and effective training environment. Such equipment includes helmets and shoulder pads, blocking shields and tackling dummies, and footballs. This funding would be used to ensure we can continue to provide as many women with American Football training as we can.

"We are women playing an amazing contact sport. This funding will help us to reach more women from varying backgrounds and reduce the barrier to entry for many years to come.
Verity - Player, and Welfare Officer"
