Halifax Sailing Club
Wainstalls in the hills above Halifax
Sailing and Windsurfing for all at Halifax Sailing club. We are a Family orientated club. We can provide the opportunity for anyone to come and learn to sail or windsurf.
We have been a sailing club ever since 1959, when one of our founding members looking for a place to sail waded into the reservoir to see if it was deep enough to sail on! This founder member still sails with us.
We are based in the hills above Halifax, between Wainstalls and Oxenhope. We are quite active with sailing taking place 3 times a week and windsurfing whenever it is windy.
A friendly club, we affiliated to the RYA. On Saturdays we have a young peoples group which is expanding rapidly. Training for sailing and Windsurfing can be provided by our experienced RYA qualified voluntary Instructors.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
If we are successful to be given funding, it would go towards buying some up to date safety helmets and waterproofs for our training and young people.
""Halifax Sailing Club is a friendly, well managed dinghy sailing club which has provided much pleasure to a great number of amateur sailors since it was founded in 1959. The club is strong in teaching sailing and has loyal, experienced and committed members who are happy to pass on their knowledge.
A strong point of the club is a dedicated band who, every week in summer, teach young people how to sail. Their reward is to see how the youngsters, many of who have never been in a sailing dinghy before, progress to become proficient at recreational and racing sailing.
This is a thriving club which will provide the local community with a great sailing facility for many years to come.' Quoted by Stuart Watson Trustee and Honorary Member of Halifax Sailing Club"
