Your story

• To provide opportunities for women young and old (13+), who wish to take part in a team sport within a recognised structured league
• To provide a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment for women to exercise and learn about team work, respect, friendship, and learn new skills.

Group introduction

Batley Ladies Hockey Club has been going for more than 30 years, initially based at and playing out of Hyrstmount. The team moved in more recent years to play on the astroturf pitch at Heckmondwike Grammar School. The clubs current players are aged 15 – 48, all of which give up their time on a Saturday in order to promote the team, the area and the sport.

All our support staff are volunteers who commit their time, knowledge and experience to provide a safe and professional environment. The club enables women to come together from different social, economic and ethnic backgrounds and communities, encouraging them to work together as part of a team, to develop their skills, support each other, have fun and provide stable, long term friendships.

The club aims to support women to take part in regular outdoor physical activities, not only raise to raise fitness levels but also to increase their mental health and wellbeing, providing them with an outlet for stresses within the home, work or school.

Equipment for training sessions, which take place once a week approximately 40 weeks per year (which includes a winter and summer league), is under constant use and needs replacing on a regular basis. The type of equipment used by the team are balls, bibs, cones, training ladders, face masks for defence and general fitness equipment.
