North Wilts Hockey Club
North Wilts Hockey Club - The Family Club
The club is a local field hockey club supporting players in and around Swindon. It runs junior hockey sessions on Sunday mornings between 1000 – 1100hrs, Social Hockey session for anyone one on Sunday mornings between 1100 – 1200hrs and formal Hockey coaching sessions on Tuesday evenings from 1900 – 2130hrs. Recently club members have started training sessions for the local school as an after-school club activity on Tuesdays. All theses sessions are to attract new players to try field hockey in a friendly atmosphere.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
The funding would help provide equipment such as hockey sticks and goals to let children in the community try out the sport of hockey. NWHC currently has only a few children’s hockey sticks and a single pair of match goals. We currently borrow training goals from the local leisure centre but they are in a sad state of disrepair making them a safety hazard for children to be around.
The intention is to build up numbers of young players (male and female) who will hopefully grow up playing hockey and keep the club viable.
"Neil Pratt - father of a member who started in the juniors section of the club when at primary school and who is, now at the age of sixteen, playing in the men’s 1st team.
The club has played a very important part in my son’s personal development, helping him mature and being part of a team/club, little of which he got from his school. At the age of 15 he also helped the social secretary for the year's activities - a very good experience.
I would like the club to be able to support other children like mine.
I am very grateful to the club who has looked after my son Chris from the age of eight. It is truly family friendly club that puts friendship and community ahead of winning competitions. The club allows younger less experienced players to play matches rather than just fielding the strongest team for the win.
There are some really dedicated people that give up a lot of their free time to support the club and the youngsters, both on the pitch and behind the scenes looking after all the administration that is required to run a club."
