Camelford Town Band

Your story

Camelford Town Band is a well established, not for profit community Brass Band. As a community band we do not audition for places within the band and welcome players of all abilities. We also offer a successful training band with currently approximately 15 school age players learning.

Group introduction

The band was reformed in approximately 1993, providing music and tuition to the local community. We can be seen at many local fetes, carnivals and more recently have tried our luck at a couple of contests, all providing promotion not only for ourselves but also the local Town.

The members and committee work very hard to be self sufficient. We rely on voluntary help, donations, income from engagements and concerts and players’ subscription to keep us going year on year, to manage the day to day running costs of the band. That income simply allows us to operate – to play for the community and to help major charities in their fundraising efforts, however the future of any band lies within its investment in new players.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

Camelford and the local area has a rapidly growing population which we are very involved in and are always looking to encourage membership from new learners and able players alike. As a community band we do not audition for places and welcome players of all abilities allowing us to be accessed by anyone interested.

We aim to build on our training band so that those within the local community can enjoy low cost music tuition and quality performance opportunities. We are struggling to support such opportunities and equipment with our current financial situation and being able to provide these basics are ever the more vital, especially in today’s financial climate.
