Kirrie Planters Group

Your story

Volunteers bring a bit of colour to Kirriemuir.

Group introduction

Three years ago, due to council cutbacks my friend and I, both keen gardeners, thought it would be great to bring some colour to the town centre with planters. After numerous meetings we were almost giving up. However, we persevered and now look after 12 planters round the town. We also took over 9 neglected planters on all the roads leading into town. We adverised on Facebook and now have 8 volunteers. 5 of whom are pensioners. We are also trying to get the local shopkeepers to have hanging baskets.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

It would be fantastic if we received this funding as it would enable us to continue with our summer and winter planting, buying seeds, plants, compost and feeding.

Kirriemuir has a population of around 6500, is the birthplace of Sir J.M. Barrie, Author of Peter Pan and Bon Scott, who was lead singer with AC/DC and there are numerous events throughout the year bringing many visitors from all over the World, especially to the Bon Fest.
