Forfar Musical Society

Your story

We are an Amateur Musical Society who have entertained the public of Angus and surrounding areas for well over 100 years. We have staged a main show and pantomime every year.

Group introduction

We are about entertaining the local public and a large part of our remit is encouraging and nurturing talent of all ages, especially the young. Several of our young members have gone on to Professional Theatre and Theatre School. We are run by 4 office bearers and a committee of 5 who are all volunteers. We have been established for over 100 years and we help entertain people of all ages and interact and support other local community groups.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

This funding would help to go towards staging our shows every year it becomes more and more difficult to stage a show, financially. We are constantly fundraising for costumes, scenery etc, and make little or no profit from any of our productions. Any small profit we do make gets ploughed into our next production. It would impact the community by enabling us to stage high standard productions....if successful the money awarded would go towards performing rights for our 2018 production of Hairspray. PR for such a production costs over £2000.This would help not only our members and cast of over 50 people, but would also help the wider community of Angus. We have an audience of over 2000 people per production.
