Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club

Your story

The mission of Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club is to create an environment for athletes to achieve their potential in sport and in life.

Group introduction

Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club is a Scottish Athletics-accredited, volunteer-led, Community Amateur Sports Club founded in 1952.  AAAC's approximately 400 athletes, aged 9 to 70-plus, train and compete in track and field events, cross country, hill, and road running.  Over the years, many have participated and earned medals in multiple Scottish, British, European, and world championships as well as the Commonwealth Games. However, AAAC strives to be inclusive to all and help everyone to achieve their personal best, whatever that may be. AAAC delivers training sessions and hosts competitions year-round at Aberdeen Sports Village.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

This funding would be put toward the cost of constructing a Photo Finish & Officials' Training Room at Aberdeen Sports Village. With its creation we hope to provide better facilities for our volunteer officials, ultimately increasing their retention, for without them we cannot host competitions. We also hope to attract bigger competitions which will increase income to be reinvested into coaching and officials resources, increasing our capacity for more members and through greater visibility, attract more members to a lifelong healthy activity, especially from underrepresented demographics. In addition to our 456 members and 82 officials, our competitions serve a monthly average of 100 non-members.

""Scottish Athletics identify Aberdeen AAC as one of our premier clubs and they have our full support in progressing this fantastic initiative."
