Keswick Tri Club
Keswick Tri Club is a multi sports club for adults and juniors. There are 30 adult members and 45 junior members, with over 10 juniors waiting to join on the waiting list. The club meets weekly for swim, bike and run training and holds regular fun informal Triathlon events.
Keswick Tri club was created in 2015 by a few like minded individuals who enjoyed Triathlons. The club expanded with over 30 adult members by the the end of 2015. With limited swim opportunities and bike skills for juniors, 7 members qualified as level 1 Tri coaches in 2016, which enabled a trial taster session for juniors to be held at the local pool. 26 juniors turned up for the taster session, and all became members.
Throughout 2016, the club held mini Triathlon events and weekly training sessions in the pool and at Derwentwater Lake for open water swimming sessions. Bike skills and run drills were also incorporated into the training sessions. Adults meet for bike rides at the weekend on top of the swim sessions, which are now available twice a week.
In 2017, the club has a level 2 coach, over 45 junior members and 30 adult members, plus a waiting list for juniors. 5 mini events will be held in 2017, 3 have already taken place with 2 more in September and October. The club is growing fast and it's great to see more young people wanting to keep fit and try Triathlon.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
The funding would help the club purchase equipment required to operate the open water swim sessions - chill swim floats and buoys to mark out a distance swim accurately. The chill swim floats are required by all members to wear when swimming in open water - these can be used for all members for many years to come. The buoys will be used for every training session when timed swims are required for fitness testing and benchmarking improvements. Also for the events held in open water every year. Over 80 members will benefit from this funding in the future.
