Newcastle Wildcats Ice Hockey Club

Your story

The University Ice Hockey has a large beginners programme, introducing around 40 new people to the sport each year, alongside running two mixed teams and a women’s only team.

Group introduction

The University Ice Hockey is run by a committee of student volunteers that also volunteer as coaches for the beginner’s team. Active since 1995, we help bring students in to a new sport that they may not otherwise have the chance to experience, with a view to playing in the teams that participate in the British Universities Ice Hockey Association league competitions.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

We would be able to buy more kit for the beginner’s team to borrow, so we can introduce more people to the sport each year and giving more young people the opportunity to try out a new sport. As we are trying to grow the sport, extra members would also help us to have a wider spread in our regular charity fundraisers.

"'Thanks to the grant from Grassroots Giving, we have been able to bring in new kit for beginners to use. This helps us introduce more new people to the exciting sport of Ice Hockey each year' Joe Gubbins, Club President"
