Burley in Wharfedale Playground Project
Burley in Wharfedale
Striving to create a better play space for children of all abilities, in an environment where they can be free.
I run the project myself along with four other committee members, who assist in the planning of events. I started on 16th January 2016, after once again having to travel by car to a nice park in another town. The play equipment in Burley in Wharfedale playground is over 30 years old. I am seeking to raise money to put in a new park with excellent drainage in our village. The current one is unusable for much of the year, it's not a pleasant place where you can spend hours on end in all weathers. There are safety issues, the park lacks the ability to give motivation, inspiration, challenge, satisfaction, education, vibrance, confidence, trust and all round good old fashioned FUN to our children.
Our playground doesn't provide aspects that benefit children, it doesn't enhance their abilities nor encourage them to discover strengths in themselves or overcome weaknesses. The new playground would have to be a place that all children of all abilities will benefit and enjoy. Somewhere on our doorstep where every child wants to go.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
The money would be spent on installing new play equipment suitable for all abilities, drainage and extending the current playground. Wheelchair users currently have no acces beyond the tarmac. The park is central to the village. It's within a short walk of all the local amenities and if only people used it more then our businisses - the fish and chip shop, the pub, the deli, the wine bar, the coffee shop... It would bring tourists to the village. The events that I have been holding have been sell outs and have been over attended. The whole village supports what I'm doing - and this shows in the funds I've raised already - £25,743 in the last 15 weeks.
