Trethomas Bluebirds AFC
We are a local village football club that was formed by local men in 1903. They developed their own pitch in Llanfabon Drive, Trethomas, for them to have some kind of social life after working underground. Through the years we have had a number of local men going to play for teams in the Welsh and English football league. We used to only have one side years ago, then in 2003 we joined the Gwent County Div 3, we also had reserves in the N&D Prem Y in 2005. Later we became Div 3 champions, and promoted to Div 2, we stayed in this division until 2016. In that time we came close 3 times to winning Div 2, and we also for the first time won the County motors cup in 2012. In 2013 we were promoted to Div 1 as runners up. This year we were Div 1 champions and promoted to the Welsh League Div 3, this is the first time in the history of Trethomas that this has happened. We now have an under 16, Under 18 Reserve side and a first team.
We are a local football team run by a committee of volunteers. We have several committee members from a president, to kit men and coaches who are all local people. Together they help young people to learn how to play as a team and respect each other. We also have links to local teams who run mini football where our coaches help out in training sessions, these age groups are from 6 - 16 years of age.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
This funding would help in purchasing better training equipment and help towards purchasing or replacing kit that is always needed. More so,it would help all four teams as they all use the same training equipment on different days.
