The Parc y werin committee
Local volunteers come together to develop local park for the community - our park our future
The potential loss of half of our local park being developed on brought together a group of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about developing the park and bringing the community together.
We are a newly established group becoming constituted in November 2015 and have already organised insurance, a litter pick, Christmas Fayre, two holiday play sessions including an Easter egg hunt, table top sales, quiz nights, forming a youth committee and our biggest event of 'Gorseinon's got talent'.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
In the summer holidays we would like to be able to provide the children in the community with a weekly play session and also set up a small tuck shop for the community to purchase refreshments, which will also allow us to open up the pavilion to give the public access to the toilets which had been highlighted as an issue.
The money will be spent on perishable materials for the play sessions such as face paints, arts and crafts- paper, pens, paint, scissors, glue, sequins, glitter etc, as well as other play opportunities such as sand, bubbles, chalks, play doh, clay, etc.
We would also purchase some initial stock for the tuck shop, helping us to make it sustainable and ongoing.
"During the summer holidays the Parc y Werin Committee will continue to deliver on what the people of Gorseinon have asked for. It is our pleasure to announce that beginning the last Monday of July right the way through August (excluding bank holiday) the committee and volunteers from the local area will be running open access play sessions at Parc y Werin as well as opening our community pavilion to be used as a pop up community café. We hope to bring the people of Gorseinon to the people’s park for our summer of fun.
