Hailsham Cricket Club

Your story

Hailsham Cricket Club is all about the community and offering opportunities for juniors and seniors to enjoy the wonderful sport. From 5 year olds picking up a bat for the first time through to older members who still enjoy the social side of the game with friends. We make sure we are at the centre of the community and try to bring everyone together, not just to benefit the sport, but the personal and life skills as well.

Group introduction

Hailsham Cricket Club prides itself on being an inclusive, family friendly club. We have 4 adult league teams who play on Saturdays in the East Sussex Leagues, a friendly Sunday team, a long running cricket week and 5 junior age groups to cater for cricketers of all age groups, genders and abilities. Alongside the cricket, there an extensive social side with regular events including quiz nights, the annual horse racing night and curry evenings.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

This year we have seen 27 new under-7 members join the club, 11 of these being girls after a big push by the club. This is exactly the response we wanted to a lot of hard advertising during the winter months. With this comes the challenge of finding volunteers and equipment that are suitable and appropriate for this specific age group. We have two new coaches who have been helping at training sessions throughout the 2016 season and we would like to put them through the ECB level 1 coaching qualification. We also need to invest in some training and match equipment for the juniors members. At the moment they are using bats, balls, stumps that are meant for the u10s and are all to big for them,

"We are a rapidly growing community cricket club and thanks to the support from Skipton Building Society we could continue to develop and offer opportunities to play cricket to the local community.
Jen Gardner (Secretary/Treasurer)"
