Diggle Diamonds was formerly Diggle Old Folks Welfare Committee, set up to help the older folks of Diggle.
Diggle is a small village set in the hills of Saddleworth. Some 30 + years ago the welfare committee was set up to help look after the interests of the older people of Diggle. We try and make sure that we keep in touch with our older folk so that they have a contact if any need help with, for example, transport for shopping, doctors' appointments, hospital visits. We are a committee of nine people and we meet every month to discuss if anyone needs our help. Also we have a coffee morning every month where we get up to 100 older folk who attend. This is a fund raising event, but the coffee morning is more a social event for the older folk to get together and exchange gossip, etc.
We also have an annual trip to the seaside where we also arrange for a meal at a hotel. Last week we went to Lytham and had a wonderful day, weather and the meal was one of the best yet,
We also arrange for a Christmas party, a meal with all the trimmings and entertainment by our local brass band. Both these events cost a lot of money and our fund raising includes a house to house collection in the Diggle village, donations from the local parish council and other local people. We are always in need of money to keep the activities going.
How would this funding have an impact on your community?
It would help our committee to keep our activites going. The money would go towards our annual trip and the Christmas party.
