Crafting for Fun

Group introduction

We are a community crafting group based in Royton, Oldham. Most of us are over 60, our oldest member being in her 80’s.

We are run on a voluntary basis with a team of 4 on our committee, but all our members help and discuss options and day to day running.

We meet every Wednesday 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. We can come when we want and go when we want, which is brilliant as some are not too good in a morning.

Most of us make cards but we welcome other crafts.

Our group encourage and help one another and there is always something new to make as members come up with new ideas and are happy to share them with the group.

For some of us living on our own, isolation and loneliness is a big issue, but being a member of this group helps alleviate that. There is lots of chatter and laughter and occasionally a sing song when we remember one of the oldies and all join in.

New members never feel left out; we welcome them with open arms, and within a short time we are good friends and sharing in all that is going on.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

As some of our members are elderly and suffer with arthritis, we would benefit from a couple of the newer electronic die cutting machines.

At the moment some of our members have to rely on others to cut dies for them as using their elbows, hands and wrists can be quite painful. Having electronic machines would give them independence and make things much easier for them and in turn the whole group.

The machines if looked after will last a good few years and will benefit hundreds of ladies over that time.
