Clayton Villa JFC

Clayton, Manchester

Your story

A well run junior football team.

Group introduction

We are a junior football team, located in some of the most deprived areas of East Manchester, Beswick, Openshaw ... and Clayton. The organisation has been running since 1992. The founders of Clayton Villa are still overseeing everything, but week to week running of the teams is now done by younger people. The teams are all run by volunteers, where we don't even take out expenses. We help keep children from aged 13 until young adults aged 17 off the streets, with training sessions Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings whilst we play games on a Saturday and Sunday. In our area children can be easily led to hang around on street corners, but we work hard in keeping them on the straight and narrow, and hopefully give them a sense of belonging to a football club.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

We could buy at least one new football kit with £500 and some equipment, footballs, cones, etc. The kit would then be handed down to the next year group, as it gets too small for the older teams. The new footballs could be spread evenly to each team, and decent footballs can last for 2 or 3 seasons, so this would help keep costs down and any spare money could be spent on rain jackets for the substitutes, on match days, which would also last a few years.

"Keep your kids active, come and join clayton villa.
