Bigrigg Over 60's Circle

Village Hall, Bigrigg

Your story

Bringing some joy into the lives of the senior citizens of Bigrigg.

Group introduction

Our Over 60's Circle meet once a fortnight in the village hall. The Circle was founded in 1984. We have a speaker and then tea and biscuits.
The aim is to get the older people of our village and surrounds to get out of their homes and have an enjoyable afternoon and make friends with like people. Without our Circle some OAPs would never go out of their homes.
We try to have at least two outings a year, including a meal and a party at Christmas.
It is fairly remote here on the west coast of the Lake District and we are an hour's ride from the nearest motorway. Therefore our outings are quite costly for a coach and a meal.
We have a chairperson, treasurer, secretary and myself, the fund raiser. We are all over 70.
Just recently we had a lovely party in honour of the Queen's 90th birthday. We all tried to dress up in red, white and blue. We all had a really nice time. So with our outings and occasional party we bring some joy into the senior citizens of Bigrigg.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

As the funding would be received at the back end of the year it would be used for our Christmas party or towards the next outing in the spring.
The benefit would be to give approx. 50 senior citizens some wonderful memories to keep. Those who live on their own and have no families would at least get to have one Christmas dinner with their circle of friends.

"If we were a winner of a fund pot, it would put a "Skip" into the OAPs of Bigrigg.

Joan Holland, fund raiser"
