Your story

Mountsfield Park Community Garden for the whole community.

Group introduction

The community garden was opened in November 2014 on the site of a long derelict bowling green. This was the culmination of a campaign by one of our members to make an improvement to Mountsfield Park and turn it back into a place that the local community is happy to use. Most of the work is done by three keen gardeners who are in the garden most weekends and some week days. The garden is now a thing of beauty, both welcoming and tranquil and loved and admired by our visitors both animal and human.

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

We see the garden as a place for children to come and play, in the mud kitchen and wood cave, but also for them to learn by seeing and sampling growing fruit and vegetables. We like to involve them whenever possible; so some of the money would be used to buy new plants and seeds. We have laid out wide sandy paths that are wheelchair friendlyand know that older and less able-bodied people like to use the garden, if possible we would like to have more seats and benches.

"'We had a lovely afternoon singing carols at Mountsfield Park, thank you.'
