Hinckley Dodgeball Club

Your story

A fun but competitive dodgeball club welcoming all players of all abilities aged 16+

Group introduction

Hinckley Dodgeball Club was established in March 2010 and started from a young group of men playing dodgeball together at school for fun who then decided to form the club and start playing competitively. This started with a local Leicester league and soon grew to competing at national tournaments across the country. Since then the club has also expanded to include a womens team and a mixed team also. The teams have been successful in competitions with both the mens and womens team's being crowned national champions five times in total between the teams. The club helps to give members and non-members somewhere to come once a week to be with friends and enjoy the fun and competitive aspects of dodgeball. We also have qualified coaches (a few of whom have represented their country in international dodgeball events). The club is currently run by a small committee group who are all volunteers (and who financially contribute their own money to make the club a success).

How would this funding have an impact on your community?

The funding would enable us to replenish equipment at the club as we are currently having to use old equipment due to financial constraints. We have also recently moved to a new leisure centre (as our old centre has closed) and they have been unable to fund putting court markings down for us. This is something that is fairly critical to us running successful training sessions, we are therefore in the process of seeking financial support to make this happen. This would ensure that the training sessions we offer for the community (both members and non-members) could continue. Without this funding, we are at risk of having to reduce the number of sessions we hold. This would impact approx. 40+ people

"Club Chairman Sam Maycock: "Having started my journey 8 years ago, dodgeball has captivated me and has helped me to improve my interpersonal skills. Representing one of the most successful teams in the country and representing my country (England) I feel honoured to be a part of the sport. This could not have been achieved without Hinckley Dodgeball Club. We have had many members over the years and have made many great friends alongside memories that will last a lifetime""
